According to The 4th Official, the Rangers are unlikely to re-sign Ryan Kent, despite his status as a free agent.
The news outlet posted on X (2 February) when new information surfaced about a prospective relocation to Iran.
Kent had been linked with a return to Ibrox after leaving Fenerbahce after his contract was terminated, but Oscar Cortes will be counted on when he returns to fitness.
“Ryan Kent stories have abound since the winger was released from his contract with Fenerbahce but his wage demands and lack of game time, along with the poor final seasons at Ibrox always made it look unlikely,” the authors claimed.
“Stories that he’s off to play in Iran because they’ll allow him keep his pet crocodiles in his bathtub sound typical of the eccentric Englishman.
“The future for Rangers left wing seems to be Oscar Cortes if he can ever stay fit.”
The Rangers will not re-sign Ryan Kent anytime soon.
Kent’s return to Rangers appears doubtful for a multitude of reasons, including his wage demands, crazy crocodile tales, and Nils Koppen’s penchant for younger players (Daily Record, 4 January).
The Light Blues are expected to be active until the closing seconds of the window, with the squad revamp still far from complete since the beginning of the summer.
Gers fans are encouraged by recent victories, notably a Europa League triumph over Union Saint-Gilloise to advance to the competition’s round of 16, followed by a 4-0 victory over Ross County on February 2.
It would be a big boost for their team to sign exciting new players before the deadline, but Kent, who is still a free agent, will not be among them.
Cortes has become a mostly forgotten man with majority of the crowd due to his poor injury luck, but there is still time for the winger to become an Ibrox legend in the future.
