Romano admits club’s interest in signing Premier League winger in January, even holding’secret conversations’

Fabrizio Romano has revealed an intriguing detail about Bryan Gil and Real Sociedad’s covert interest in signing him last month.

The January transfer window closed just a few days ago, and the details of many failed transactions are finally becoming released.

Tottenham Hotspur emerged as the market’s most active club, completing three moves and signing players including Timo Werner, Radu Dragusin, and Lucas Bergvall.

Spurs also had eight players leave, either permanently or on loan. Bryan Gil was another player who had considered quitting.

He was extensively linked with a move away from Hotspur Way last month, but he ultimately stayed with the club.

According to trade specialist Fabrizio Romano, Real Sociedad approached Bryan Gil about a loan deal in January.

They even held’secret talks’ with the club, but were unable to meet the Lilywhites’ criteria, resulting in the deal falling through.

He adds that the Spanish club was not the only one interested in signing the left-winger; Feyenoord and fellow English team Brighton both made late bids.

    Romano shared on X:

“Real Sociedad requested Bryan Gil on loan during the January transfer window. He was one of the objectives, but despite secret conversations with Spurs, the terms of the trade were not within Real’s parameters.”

“Bryan turned down Feyenoord and Brighton proposals in the final week.”

Nonetheless, the teenage forward declined offers from both clubs in the final week, preferring to remain in North London.

Gil has yet to score for the Lillywhites, and it is doubtful that this will change anytime soon, especially with the club’s recent addition of Timo Werner. Werner is likely to play often on the left side of the attack.

Nonetheless, the teenager is confident in his ability to compete for playing time and turn his career around in north London.
