Leeds United are looking to acquire a striker before the January transfer window closes, and one forward connected with a move to Elland Road has been offered an escape route by Roberto De Zerbi.
Starting the window with four strikers who have all established themselves at this level; otherwise, Daniel Farke now has only two choices up front in the Premier League. Joe Gelhardt has left for Hull City, where he scored in his debut.
Gelhardt made his second start in Hull’s thrilling 3-0 away triumph over Sheffield United on Friday night. Typically, Patrick Bamford’s injury setback occurred shortly after Leeds approved Gelhardt’s departure.
Leeds have been linked with numerous strikers. Mergim Berisha is on his way to Augsburg, while Sevilla attacker Kelechi Iheanacho is being persuaded to return to England amid speculations that he would join Leeds.
Roberto De Zerbi comes up with an escape plan for Leeds target.
Leeds United have been connected with Brighton’s Evan Ferguson, who has struggled to find game time since Fabian Hurtzeler and Georginio Rutter joined Leeds.
Don Goodman recently stated that Ferguson would be a “perfect fit” for Leeds, but all links between the Whites and Ferguson have dissolved. According to Alan Nixon of The Sun, De Zerbi is interested in signing Ferguson.
Nixon states on his Patreon that De Zerbi is offering Ferguson the chance to go and join Marseille on loan till the end of the season, in a move that would see the Italian gaffer rejoin with Ferguson in France.
Marseille and De Zerbi will certainly tempt Ferguson to go.
If Marseille and De Zerbi are serious about bringing the Irish target to Ligue 1 before the deadline on February 3, it is difficult to see why Ferguson would not be attracted by the move.
Leeds will have a huge list of strikers to choose from in the final few days of the transfer window, and Ferguson might be among them. However, even at the start of the window, it was regarded as largely ambitious.
This is a young prospect who has shone when given Premier League game time. Championship football is beneath Ferguson, and a move to Marseille under De Zerbi will undoubtedly appeal to the forward.
