Robert Snodgrass has supported Leeds United to earn promotion to the Premier League following their 3-1 victory against Hull on April 1 at Elland Road.
The Scotsman, who was analyzing the Whites’ performances alongside David Prutton and Jobi McAnuff after late goals from Crysencio Summerville and Dan James clinched the victory, believes Leeds’ momentum will push them over the line before the end of the season.
According to Sky Sports Football’s official X account, Snodgrass stated, “I believe that at this time, the momentum has been with Ipswich, who have won nine of their last ten, and Leeds, who are flying.”
Leaders Ipswich and third-placed Leicester both recovered from behind to win on a demanding Easter Monday schedule. Leeds matched them with a late victory, and Snodgrass believes they have what it takes to stay the course, adding, “We speak about squad depth, we speak about character, and I’m going to go for Ipswich and Leeds.”
Leeds ended their Easter Monday losing streak at Elland Road, as Ipswich and Leicester surpassed them in the Championship’s top two ahead of their late kick-off against Hull. The Whites had previously lost all seven such matches dating back to 2011.
Hull equalised in the first half after Sam Byram’s opening in the ninth minute, setting up a tense, cagey second period, but Summerville’s late penalty put the Whites back in ahead, and James sealed the points in stoppage time from distance.
At this time in the season, winning is the most essential thing, regardless of how the points are earned, and as Snodgrass noted, Ipswich and Leicester found methods to achieve it before Leeds’ Yorkshire derby.
Leeds’ response in the dying minutes at Elland Road keeps them firmly in the chase for an extremely tight promotion battle, and it’s their capacity to win late, ugly, and at any cost that will determine their fate as this amazing season comes to a close.
Earlier in the day, former Leeds manager Paul Heckingbottom spoke about the strain of this unusual Championship promotion chase.
