Richard Keys has once again defended Nottingham Forest and clarified what Paul Tierney said to players on Saturday.
This was posted on Twitter after the club and Steven Reid were charged for their actions after the final whistle.
So, what did Keys say about the Forest incident on Saturday? Let’s look more closely.
What Richard Keys believes. Paul Tierney said to the Nottingham Forest players
The fallout continues, and to be fair, it will be wonderful to see Forest return to football.
The Reds travel to Brighton this weekend, and they should be coming off a hard-fought point against Liverpool.
However, because Tierney forgot that his role is to implement the law, Forest arrives after yet another defeat.
Keys is startled, and in a very astonishing Twitter message, he explains what he believes Tierney said and did on the day.
He wrote: “Instead of charging Forest, the FA should apologise. What a joke. Have they charged the arrogant referee who refused to listen to colleagues on the day and told everyone ‘I’m the boss’?
Former Premier League referee Mark Halsey was the first to claim Tierney made a mistake, while many analysts disagreed.
Forest had to move on, but it’s no surprise they were upset.
Good referees go unnoticed. They blend in, do what they need to do to keep the game under control, and execute their job quietly.
Bad ones convince everyone that it’s all about them and lose concentration at critical periods in games, resulting in mistakes in law.
Enter Paul Tierney!
Forest finds the haphazard character of this one difficult to swallow, and Keys has captured it perfectly.
Okay, Reid and Forest should not have acted the way they did, but this is the best league in the world, supposedly, and this was a huge mistake.
This post from Keys will enrage Forest fans, if it is accurate, and it is slightly nasty that the FA appears to have backed their official.
Tierney’s reward for a terrible mistake? The opportunity to serve as VAR on Arsenal’s game versus Brentford this weekend.
Someone, sometime, make it clear…
