Richard Keys makes a ‘worried’ point following Leeds and Southampton results.
Richard Keys has questioned if Southampton supporters should be “worried” following their team’s recent setback, which coincided with a victory for Leeds United.
Leeds increased the pressure on automatic promotion contenders Southampton and Ipswich Town with a 3-1 victory over leaders Leicester City on Friday (February 23).
Ipswich answered with a 3-1 win over Birmingham City, but the Saints lost 2-1 at home to Millwall on Saturday (24 February), falling five points behind.
Speaking on beIN Sports [24 February, 5:25pm], Keys asked co-host Andy Gray, “The top two will be the top two, aren’t they?” Are you concerned if you are a Southampton fan?”
He replied: “They’ll have to make do over a play-off place and find some form.”
Southampton lost ground on Leeds and Ipswich.
There are just too many games left in the Championship season for this to be regarded a decisive weekend in any case.
Meanwhile, Leeds have won nine consecutive games to move into the top two. Ipswich, to their credit, have returned from a setback and are level with the Whites on 72 points after 34 games.
All it takes is one bad result for Leeds, such as a loss to Huddersfield Town next weekend – as implausible as it sounds – and the picture changes again.
It’s worth mentioning that Southampton will travel to Elland Road on the final day. Even now, with 11 games before it, you know there will be something riding on it.
