Just a few days after Archie Gray left Leeds United to join Tottenham, another key player is expected to leave for a European club, with personal conditions being agreed upon.
The 18-year-old is Leeds’ second major sale this summer, following Marc Roca’s return to Real Betis for a cost of over £4 million. Gray believes Leeds will receive a sum of approximately £40 million.
However, a quarter of that has been spent on Joe Rodon, who has returned to Elland Road on a permanent basis after a fantastic loan spell with the club last season under manager Daniel Farke.
Gray will almost certainly not be Leeds’ last sale. Many players are garnering interest from rival clubs, with Georginio Rutter the target of a £30 million deal from Brighton, who are interested in four Leeds players.
However, one player signed by Farke is now claimed to have negotiated personal terms with a Ligue 1 club:
Leeds star signs deal with French club a year after joining
Glen Kamara, described as “terrific” by Steven Gerrard during his time at Rangers, played a crucial role in his first season at Elland Road after joining Leeds for £5 million in the last days of August.
The Finland star has been extremely steady throughout, rarely exceeding an 8/10 and rarely dropping in form. He has also dealt with many midfield partners, including Gray, Ilia Gruev, and Ethan Ampadu.
Brighton are thought to be interested in one of four players the Seagulls are looking for. However, Rennes in France are pressing for Kamara, with Ouest France saying that personal terms have been agreed upon.
Rennes’ interest in Kamara is nothing new, as the two have previously been linked.
According to the source, Kamara is a ‘priority’ for Rennes this summer, with personal terms already completed. It would be a shock to Leeds to lose the Arsenal academy product, however it is unclear how much he is paid.
Rennes have previously been linked with a deal for Kamara while he was at Rangers. According to reports in France from 2022, Rennes hoped to transfer him from Rangers to the top tier of French football by 2023.
So, Kamara could be headed to Rennes, and while this is a setback, it gives Leeds more money to spend in the coming months ahead of the start of the 2024-25 season, when Leeds hopes to make a second promotion drive.
