Report: Sunderland and Chris Wilder eye a £7 million striker that Leeds United explored before signing Joel Piroe

Daniel Farke continues to suggest that Leeds United expects a quiet window in terms of incoming signings, which has not changed despite the club’s competitors making early additions this month.

Sheffield United are in serious need of new recruits, as Chris Wilder’s team has suffered far too many injuries. They are reportedly closing up on Ben Brereton Diaz and Hamza Choudhury.

Burnley have also signed Oliver Sonne and Turf Moor favourite Ashley Barnes, who joins on a six-month contract from Norwich. Sunderland’s signing of Enzo Le Fee has raised concerns among Leeds fans.

Leeds, on the other hand, do not appear to be planning any new signings at this time. That is despite the fact that Joe Gelhardt is due to join Hull on loan, as is midfielder Charlie Crew.

Sheffield United and Sunderland are currently looking for a striker worth £7 million

With Gelhardt gone and Patrick Bamford now attracting interest from Blackburn as John Eustace prepares to raid Leeds for the former England striker, Leeds could use a new striker in the coming weeks.

Daniel Farke has hinted at looking for a new striker. According to Alan Nixon, Sheffield United and Sunderland are looking at Leicester’s Tom Cannon as a potential signing.

Cannon’s loan at Stoke City includes a break clause until Wednesday, and interest from some of the stronger Championship clubs may encourage Cannon to break his current loan before departing Leicester again.

Daniel Farke considered Tom Cannon before Joel Piroe signed.

In Daniel Farke’s first summer, the club agreed to pay £16 million to sign Joel Piroe. The Dutchman went on to enjoy a solid-ish first season, followed by a better second season at Elland Road this year.

He has contributed 15 goals and assists, however Cannon has scored more this season, with 11 to Piroe’s 10. This includes Cannon scoring four goals in one game, a 6-1 victory over Portsmouth.

Leeds had explored signing Cannon from Everton until Leicester came in and Leeds decided to pursue Piroe. Now, he could be joining a rival team in the race for Championship promotion this season.
