Leeds United’s summer strategy of selling players before buying has continued this week with the departure of Glen Kamara, and 10 clubs are now interested in another Elland Road star.
Many are expected to follow 59-time Finland star Kamara out the door after his transfer to Rennes. Six players have been sold, including Archie Gray, Kris Klaesson, Marc Roca, Diego Llorente, and Charlie Cresswell.
Junior Firpo could be next, with Real Betis pushing, while Rasmus Kristensen’s transfer to Frankfurt appears to be a loan with an option at this point. Of course, Crysencio Summerville remains in demand.
However, following a poor start to the summer, Italy’s Wilfried Gnonto is already garnering a lot of interest. Newcastle and Everton were linked this week, with Everton expecting a £22 million deal for Gnonto.
Gnonto is wanted by up to ten clubs, six of which are in the Premier League.
The sheer number of clubs wanting to sign Gnonto has been revealed. Gnonto is wanted by ten clubs, four of which are from his home country, since a move to Serie A appears to be likely at some point during his career.
Caught Offside reports that Cesc Fabregas’ freshly promoted Como are interested, as are Juventus, Napoli, and Roma. The latter, of course, have a strong working relationship with Leeds, courtesy to duo Llorente and Kristensen.
Six Premier League clubs have expressed interest. Nottingham Forest have already made a bid of £16.9 million, which is lower than Leeds’ estimate. Everton, Wolves, West Ham, Newcastle, and Steve Cooper’s Leicester are interested.
Massive interest is only a positive thing for Leeds this summer.
It was always assumed that both Gnonto and Summerville would go, and given their close relationship, when one leaves, the other is expected to follow. Both are generating great interest.
According to the Caught Offside report, Gnonto is rated at £25 million and has been described as “excellent” by Daniel Farke. With ten clubs interested, this will only assist raise the price Leeds eventually receive.
If Leeds intend to let him go, the best-case scenario is a bidding war in which his price rises steadily. The 49ers should seriously consider spending around £25 million this summer.
