Leeds United are close to announcing the transfer of a sixth player this summer, and more are likely, with a Premier League club sure a £22 million fee will be sufficient to secure an Elland Road star.
Archie Gray is the major one who has gone through this summer. The teenager has joined Tottenham Hotspur for a cost of £40 million, while Marc Roca and Diego Llorente have gone permanently for Real Betis.
Kris Klaesson has joined Rakow in Poland, while Charlie Cresswell has signed with Ligue 1 club Toulouse. Glen Kamara is coming closer to an £8.5 million move to Rennes with a medical book released today.
More are anticipated, and this week, one Leeds player has been connected with a return to the Premier League and a reunion with Jack Harrison. Everton are competing with Newcastle for Wilfried Gnonto’s signature.
Everton is optimistic of completing the Gnonto trade, with the amount identified.
Indeed, Everton are thought to have begun negotiations to buy Gnonto this week. The move has long been in the works, with the Italy star attempting to force a move to Goodison Park about a year ago.
A year later, Planet Sport reports that Everton are confident of signing Gnonto. As Gnonto debuted in the top division, Gary Neville hailed him as “mature” in an analysis while Leeds were in the Premier League.
According to the report, Everton has selected a figure that they believe will entice Leeds to sell. The Toffees believe a fee of £22 million will entice Leeds to trade the Italy star in the coming weeks.
Nottingham Forest bid, Newcastle interest, and Gnonto’s entourage
Gnonto has been the subject of numerous conflicting reports this summer. Nottingham Forest made a £16.9 million deal for Gnonto, but rumors of that offer have since gone cold, implying Leeds rejected it.
Leeds are thought to want £25 million or more for Gnonto, but Everton believe a little lower amount will suffice. Newcastle are also reportedly interested in signing Gnonto, with Miguel Almiron poised to depart.
Gnonto’s agents believe the Leeds winger will leave in the coming weeks, even though Gnonto is not actively seeking a move away from the Yorkshire club this summer.
