Leeds United’s chase of new talent has continued in recent weeks, with the Whites looking to strengthen an already well-rounded squad, and a ‘major target’ has emerged.
This summer, Leeds recruited Alex Cairns, Jayden Bogle, Joe Rodon, and Joe Rothwell to a team that lost eight players from the list of stars to chose from for the Wembley play-off final in June.
Connor Roberts, Jaidon Anthony, Archie Gray, Glen Kamara, Kris Klaesson, Charlie Cresswell, Liam Cooper, and Jamie Shackleton have all left, leaving only three new signings as Rodon returns to Yorkshire.
However, Leeds have recalled Brenden Aaronson and Max Wober from loan. Pascal Struijk has returned to fitness, and young players Charlie Crew and James Debayo appear to be on their way to the senior team.
Leeds’ squad appears balanced, but Daniel Farke wants additions.
Attacking midfield is one area where the squad lacks depth. Aaronson may have returned, but in both friendlies, he has played on Leeds’ left wing rather than his usual 10 position.
Georginio Rutter, of course, is the first candidate for the 10 position, but even the Frenchman is not a 10. Rothwell is expected to play a larger part, similar to Kamara’s role with Ilia Gruev or Ethan Ampadu.
According to TeamTalk, Daniel Farke is eager to remedy the situation by signing Gabriel Sara from former club Norwich City. A guy who has been linked with several clubs this summer and is valued at a stunning £17 million if he leaves.
Gabriel Sara is the distinction between advancement and failure.
When Farke was appointed at Leeds, he was quick to remind out that promotion might not happen in his first season. It took the German until his second season at Norwich to propel the club to the top.
Promotion is now expected after reaching the play-off final last season, with the three relegated sides substantially weaker than the ones that advanced. Sara, the “outstanding” one, would have given Leeds all of the tools.
Sara, rated at £17 million, dominated the Championship last season. He was easily Norwich’s finest player, contributing 25 goals in 48 appearances from midfield, and Farke is now hoping to bring him to Elland Road this season.
