Nottingham Forest has a number of players performing above expectations this season, and things are going incredibly well in the Premier League.
The Reds are currently third in the Premier League, having collected 40 points from their first 20 games of the 2024/25 season.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s team faces Liverpool on Tuesday night, and Graeme Souness believes Forest can compete for the title if they win that game.
Yesterday, the FA Cup took center stage at the City Ground. Forest defeated Luton Town 2-0, with former Forest assistant manager Paul Trollope taking over the Hatters.
The encounter provided Espirito Santo with an opportunity to evaluate many of his peripheral players, while the usual stars rested ahead of Tuesday night’s big home game.
This season, the squad is packed with talent. With that in mind, the first aim for the current transfer window is to keep the club’s elite players when things close.
Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Elanga is considered as a future star signing.
Newcastle made no secret of their desire for Elanga during the summer. Ultimately, the Magpies waited too late on transfer deadline day to complete a deal, and their search for a new wide option continues.
According to The Sun, Newcastle remains interested in Elanga. It is expected that they will see him as a star signing in the future, with other players lined up for the short term.
Elanga began to really get rolling this season around December. During the Christmas season, he scored in three consecutive games, against Aston Villa, Brentford, and Tottenham.
Elanga, 22, is one of the Premier League’s fastest players. His pace makes him a continuous worry for defenders, and his current form demonstrates how valuable he is to Forest.
Forest can retain Elanga playing European football next season.
It won’t be easy for Forest to keep all of their top players, but qualifying for Europe next season would put them in fantastic shape.
Elanga is far from finished as a player, and being at Forest and playing every week can only help him develop.
In some ways, it’s fortunate that large clubs are keeping tabs on Forest’s key players. It demonstrates that the Reds are doing something right and are eventually having a successful season.
Elanga appears to be a good character in the Forest dressing room. As a result, the Reds won’t want to lose him anytime soon, and finishing in the European places should persuade him to stay.
