With the summer transfer market officially open, Nottingham Forest’s scouts will be watching players from all around the world.
The Reds have already signed Elliot Anderson for around £35 million.
More players will undoubtedly follow the Newcastle man to the City Ground, though Nuno Espirito Santo will prefer to work with a smaller team.
As the head coach wants to reorganize his roster, numerous players may leave the club.
Forest are now looking at a guy who is making waves at the Copa America, which is taking place in the United States right now.
Nottingham Forest are interested in Maximiliano Araujo, a Uruguayan star.
This is a slightly unexpected link, but it appears that Araujo is planning a major relocation this summer.
According to Eduardo Borgos of Diario AS, Araujo is coveted by Barcelona, Forest, and Aston Villa this summer, and he has a £20 million release clause.
The 24-year-old has made 59 appearances for Toluca in the Mexican top division, and a player of his caliber will undoubtedly move to Europe at some point.
His form with Uruguay has been good, with 11 games and three goals.
Araujo started as a left winger in Monday’s 1-0 triumph over the United States, but was stretchered off after only 27 minutes.
Uruguay has won all three games in the competition and is currently through to the knockout stages.
Signing Araujo would be a major coup for Forest.
It still seems bizarre that Forest are being linked with players linked with a move to Barcelona, but that is where the club is right now.
This summer, Forest will prioritize quality over quantity, which should bode well considering Espirito Santo’s desire for a lower squad size.
Araujo appears to be a difficult acquisition for Forest this summer, but if he can be secured, he would be an excellent addition.
The player is versatile on the left side, capable of playing as a wing-back, left-back, or even a left-winger.
The Forest roster currently lacks many left-footed players, and Araujo would undoubtedly benefit the Reds in that regard.
