During the summer transfer window, Nottingham Forest signed Alex Moreno on loan from Aston Villa, with the agreement set to last until the end of the season.
Moreno was a target for Forest in the summer of 2022. On that time, he chose to stay at Real Betis before moving for Aston Villa six months later, dealing the Reds a blow.
Last summer, however, with Forest more established in the Premier League, Moreno was delighted to join the club and has since become a fan favourite.
When he first joined the club, he was immediately assigned to the left-back position. He has made 14 appearances in all, one for each cup competition.
Moreno has not started a Premier League game since December at Manchester City, when Forest last lost, and there are some rumors about his future.
Real Betis connected to an emotional move for Alex Moreno.
Spanish journalist Samuel Silva claims that Betis are interested in signing Moreno on loan before the transfer window closes in February.
Forest would need to send him back to Villa for this to happen. Or, alternatively, Villa would have to recall him if they were unsatisfied with his amount of game time.
Moreno is proven to be an extremely helpful addition to Forest’s squad. Neco Williams is keeping him out of the team right now, but the left-footed player will return at some point.
If Moreno leaves this month, Forest will be a touch short of full-backs, and while he is not currently playing, there are still plenty of games left.
Forest is unlikely to buy Moreno.
Moreno may find himself in limbo this summer. Forest will most likely look for a younger left-back, while Villa has Lucas Digne and Ian Maatsen battling for a spot in the team.
That might put Moreno in need of a club, and it’s apparent there’s still a player inside. Alex Moreno is frequently seen fist-pumping the Forest fans following a victory, and he appears to be a nice guy.
This month, it would be risky for Forest to let Moreno leave. The beauty of the group right now is that there are options from the bench, and allowing the Spaniard to return to Villa would weaken the club in that regard.
