The transfer deadline approaches, and a new name has been connected with a move to Nottingham Forest.
Forest has had a calm summer so far. Evangelos Marinakis wants to add a striker to the squad, but the club appears content to wait for the perfect player to arrive.
Matheus Cunha has been associated to Forest. It is said that the club will make a big bid for his services, but with Wolves in the midst of a relegation struggle, it seems like a difficult transaction to execute.
Forest has another target on his list: Igor Jesus. The Reds are in talks with Botafogo, and it could cost Nuno Espirito Santo more than £30 million to sign the forward.
Surprisingly, another name has surfaced for Forest, and it appears to be a player with one eye on the future rather than someone who could come in and have an immediate effect on the club.
Nottingham Forest wants Nasser Djiga.
According to Nogo Mania, Forest are considering signing Crvena Zvezda’s center defender Djiga before the transfer market expires.
According to reports, Forest may try to sign him with the intention of moving Murillo on in the future. However, he operates on the right, which may prevent him from being a natural option to the Brazilian.
Djiga, 22, has been a regular for the Serbian club this season. He helped the squad qualify for the Champions League by overcoming Bodo/Glimt and has appeared in seven group stage matches.
Djiga has made 55 appearances for the club, scoring four goals and assisting three times. According to the source, Forest has launched a proposal of £7 million for the midfielder, who is valued somewhat higher by his present club.
Djiga selected to Champions League Team of the Week.
Djiga’s goal and assist against PSV last week earned him a spot on Who Scored’s current Champions League Team of the Week. His total rating of 8.1 was the second highest among all center defenders, trailing only Monaco’s Wilfried Singo.
Djiga is a player identified by Forest advisor Miran Pavlin. He knows the Balkan market really well, so it’s not unexpected that Forest made this offer.
Forest could use an attacker as a priority during the current transfer window. However, this does not mean that the club should forsake its objectives for the future, and signing Djiga makes sense.
Murillo recently signed a new contract with Forest. If European football is secured, he may continue with the club; however, if not, someone like Djiga has experience playing on that front, which may be extremely beneficial to the club in the future.
