Nottingham Forest are still looking for a striker before the transfer season ends, as the Reds work to finalise their recruitment plans.
Chris Wood, who scored 14 Premier League goals last season, and Taiwo Awoniyi are the Reds’ major players right now.
However, the reasoning behind signing another one is rather straightforward.
Wood will be 33 years old this season, and he cannot continue indefinitely, since the New Zealand international is in his final year of contract.
Then there’s Awoniyi, who has scored some key goals since joining Forest from Union Berlin in the summer of 2022.
However, his injury problems are a source of concern, and a younger striker would be welcome to alleviate the strain on his shoulders.
Now, word of a new link has emerged, and it might be very exciting for Forest.
Nottingham Forest wants Vitor Roque from Barcelona.
According to Marca, Forest is one of the clubs that could now make a formal offer to Barcelona for gifted striker Roque.
Forest are not alone in their desire to sign the 19-year-old striker this month; Everton, Girona, Porto, and Real Sociedad are also interested.
Barcelona wants to recuperate approximately £25 million for the player and is eager to transfer him within the current window.
Since joining Barcelona from Brazilian club Athletico Paranaense, Roque has made 16 first-team appearances and scored twice.
When Roque was playing in his native nation, the famed Brazilian striker Ronaldo predicted that he would go on to become one of the world’s top players.
Now, the Reds may be preparing a push to recruit the striker before the transfer window closes later this month.
Roque is one for the future, but he may not be what Forest needs right now.
Naturally, not many fans will turn down the opportunity to sign a player of Roque’s caliber, but there may be a settling in phase.
At £27 million, Forest would like someone to come in and have an immediate influence on the team, which may not be Roque.
Despite his talent, he is still quite raw and has little experience playing in Europe.
Still, it’s impossible not to get a little enthusiastic that Forest are putting themselves in the running to sign the best young players Europe has to offer.
Forest need a striker before the window closes, and with the links growing more regular, it appears like the club is ratcheting up the chase.
