Nottingham Forest are eager to finish their preparations ahead of the transfer season, and it has been a welcome change to have a less frantic summer.
The Reds have signed six players, with Ramon Sosa set to join Forest as the club’s seventh.
All of these players, with the exception of Marko Stamenic, who has joined Olympiacos on loan for the season, will aim to play against Bournemouth on Saturday.
Forest aren’t done in the transfer market yet, as Nuno Espirito Santo is looking to add another goalkeeper to his squad before the window closes.
Sam Johnstone has been connected with a move to Forest, but other names are in the running, including a man who may be a very fine addition if he is included.
Nottingham Forest place Aaron Ramsdale high on the shortlist.
According to TalkSPORT, Ramsdale will leave Arsenal this summer; however, they would prefer to sell him rather than loan him.
Allowing him to depart on a temporary basis is possible, but Arsenal would like some guarantees on a future purchase.
Forest aren’t the only ones looking to capture Ramsdale before the transfer window shuts; Wolves and Southampton are also interested.
It appears that Forest will try to sign the stopper, with the report saying that he is high on the City Ground’s target list.
Ramsdale is behind David Raya at the Emirates Stadium, and he wants to move somewhere and play regular football again.
Mikel Arteta has described the player as ‘outstanding’, but he has been unable to grab the gloves from Raya during the last year.
Ramsdale has made 89 appearances for the Gunners since signing, and he may see leaving as a grind.
At 26 years old, he’s had a taste of regular play, and waiting on the bench for another season does not appear to be something he’s looking forward to.
Forest will face difficult challenges in signing Ramsdale. The player makes £120,000 per week at Arsenal, and even on loan, the Gunners would seek a significant portion of that income.
Forest must sell if Ramsdale is signed.
Forest cannot justify signing another goalkeeper at this time because they already have Matz Sels, Carlos Miguel, and Matt Turner.
If Ramsdale is a priority aim for the club, one or two goalkeepers must be sold this summer to balance the roster.
Having three goalkeepers is a new practice, albeit most clubs have a youth who serves as a third stopper in an emergency.
Ramsdale would be a game changer, and his talent might help Forest climb the Premier League table this season.
Although Sels will most certainly open the campaign as the number one, he is not regarded a long-term possibility, although Ramdale is.
At 32, the Belgian will want to play, and he, along with Matt Turner, may leave the City Ground if England’s goalkeeper signs in the summer.
