Nottingham Forest are very set to be looking for a new striker before the January transfer window ends.
It appeared like Forest might not be actively seeking fresh additions this month. However, West Ham are interested in Taiwo Awoniyi, and if he left, a replacement will need to be found.
The Reds have been connected with several players this month. Botafogo attacker Igor Jesus is a Forest target, but it remains to be seen whether the South American market can provide any results this month.
Evangelos Marinakis wants to add a striker to the Forest squad, and Nuno Espirito Santo will almost surely want reinforcements, especially if Awoniyi departs the club before the transfer window shuts.
Nottingham Forest actively consider Yoane Wissa.
According to The Telegraph, Forest will compete with Arsenal for Brentford talisman Wissa before the transfer season ends, with the Reds expected to move if Awoniyi leaves.
The 28-year-old scored 12 goals and assisted twice during the 2024/25 season, and his current contract will expire in the summer with only one year remaining.
Wissa has stepped up for Brentford since Ivan Toney decided to relocate to Saudi Arabia. He has been Thomas Frank’s main striker this season, and getting him to leave the Bees could be difficult.
Brentford signed the player in August 2021 for a fee of £8.5 million from French club Lorient. His signing exemplifies Brentford’s recruitment strategy, as Wissa has scored 41 goals since joining.
What Thomas Frank stated about Yoane Wissa:
It would be a major blow to Brentford if Wissa left for a rival. Given their need for a major striker this month, Arsenal are unquestionably the frontrunners.
Frank told the Premier League in November that Wissa has been an incredible addition, and it’s hard to argue with him given the transfer amount and influence he’s had.
Forest would undoubtedly welcome a player of Wissa’s caliber in the Premier League, and his contract circumstances may ensure that the sum isn’t as high as it could be.
First, the matter with Awoniyi needs to be addressed. If he does go for West Ham, replacing him with a player of Wissa’s caliber would be an amazing signing for Forest.
