Newcastle United are interested in signing Dean Huijsen as they look to add a center-back this summer.
The Magpies failed to sign a centre-back in the previous two transfer windows. Newcastle sought to sign Marc Guehi last summer but were unable to reach an agreement with Crystal Palace for the England international.
In January, Newcastle came close to signing Abdukodir Khusanov. Unfortunately, PSR fears prevented Toon officials from paying the needed amount to sign the 20-year-old.
Now the focus shifts to the summer, with Newcastle looking to add three players. One of those acquisitions will be a right-sided centre-back, as Eddie Howe and Paul Mitchell look for a long-term successor for Fabian Schar.

This could lead them to Bournemouth. Newcastle are interested in Illia Zabarnyi, but he is not the only Cherries defender the club is considering.
Newcastle are also interested in Dean Huijsen, whose £50 million release clause becomes activated this summer.
That fee would make him Newcastle’s third most expensive signing ever, although the figures involved are unlikely to deter Toon authorities.
According to the i Paper, Newcastle United is confident that their improved financial status will allow them to fight for Huijsen’s signing.
Newcastle’s PSR position has been strengthened by the departures of Miguel Almiron and Lloyd Kelly, which should allow them to make significant investments during the summer transfer window.
That is hopeful, as the i Paper reports that the Magpies, along with Chelsea and Liverpool, are among the three Premier League clubs interested in Huijsen.
Where Dean Huijsen might fit in at Newcastle United
Huijsen would become Newcastle United’s most expensive defender in history if he signed for £50 million, a record presently held by Sven Botman. The 25-year-old cost Lille about £35 million in 2022.
However, Huijsen would undoubtedly be a worthwhile investment.
He has been outstanding for Bournemouth this season, demonstrating the skills that would make him an excellent alternative for Fabian Schar. He is great on the ball, and his potential for further improvement is obvious at the age of 19.
If Newcastle sign Huijsen, he will eventually become Sven Botman’s long-term centre-back partner. They might be a deadly combo as Paul Mitchell works to improve the Newcastle United squad.
Securing a deal for a young and talented player like Huijsen would ensure Eddie Howe’s back four is absolutely set for the next few years. Huijsen would join Botman, Tino Livramento, and Lewis Hall, who are 22 and 20 years old, respectively.
