Leeds United’s search for the ideal additions continues, with Daniel Farke’s admission that no new players will arrive until Sheffield Wednesday.
The Whites travel to Hillsborough this Friday, six days after a disappointing 0-0 draw against West Bromwich Albion, which highlighted how short Farke’s squad is today.
Leeds still haven’t found replacements for Georginio Rutter or Crysencio Summerville, therefore they only had one shot on goal throughout the 90 minutes.
Not only did the lack of a box-to-box midfielder impede the attack’s service, but those in the front four also suffered.
Joel Piroe in the number 10 role just did not work, as the three surrounding him were easily shut out by West Brom’s defenders.
Leeds United are interested in signing Lausanne’s Alvyn Sanches.
Farke has expressed a desire for more goal-scoring midfielders, but Ilia Gruev is not the right fit.
Glen Kamara was sold for that very reason, and based on the French media’s reaction to his Rennes debut, it appears that it was a mistake to let him leave.
Hannibal Mejbri of Manchester United appears to be a target for Leeds, but the Daily Express reports that he is not the only one.
Leeds are reportedly competing with Celtic, Burnley, and Feyenoord for the signing of Lausanne-Sport midfielder Alvyn Sanches.
Celtic are now at the top of the queue for Sanches as they look to replace Matt O’Riley, with the Scottish club’s scouting department seeing him as a potential ‘elite player’.
Lausanne had set an asking price of £4 million earlier in the window, but are thought to have reduced it to £3 million as interest grew.
Who is the latest Leeds United target, Alvyn Sanches?
Sanches, 21, has plenty of senior experience in Switzerland, having played 89 times for Lausanne.
He can play as a number eight or ten, and he has a keen eye for goal from midfield, having scored 16 in 89 senior appearances.
Sanches has also represented Switzerland at the U20 and U21 levels, scoring five goals in nine appearances, an extremely impressive record.
He has a contract with Lausanne until the summer of 2026, but if Leeds is serious about signing him, they will face stiff competition.
