Report: Leeds United transfer made possible as former PL star can now leave for £0 this month

Kelechi Iheanacho was once a very successful Premier League striker. He has been around a long time, but he is currently suffering for form in Spain. Leeds United are linked with a January transfer.

Leeds United are reportedly interested in signing Sevilla’s Kelechi Iheanacho. The Nigerian striker joined the club in the summer after leaving Leicester City following their promotion to the Premier League, but the 28-year-old has struggled with form.

In nine La Liga games, he has failed to score for his new team. There is already rising talk that Iheanacho may leave Sevilla during the January transfer window, with other clubs reportedly interested in the former Manchester City player.

Daniel Farke appears eager to buy a striker in January. Mergim Berisha has been connected with Leeds United, although he appears to be moving elsewhere, as has Emmanuel Latte Lath of Middlesbrough.

Iheanacho, on the other hand, is an exciting link who might significantly strengthen the Whites’ frontline ahead of the run-in, as Joel Piroe has been hit and miss thus far in the 2024/25 season.

Sevilla has made Kelechi Iheanacho available for free, as the January transfer window closes on February 3rd. Leeds United is interested in the player. According to Revelo, the Spanish giants are willing to let him go for free.

They state that Iheanacho, who joined Sevilla on a free transfer from Leicester City in the summer and signed a two-year contract, ‘may depart for free’ in January. However, the same report indicated that Greek club Panathinaikos is showing an increasing interest.

Sevilla manager Garcia Pimienta previously stated that the club has received proposals for Iheanacho, but Revelo claims that the striker has yet to receive an offer that appeals to him.

Spanish media have claimed that Iheanacho isn’t performing to his full potential because he’s currently overweight, a suggestion that Pimienta has repeatedly refuted.

Pimienta said of the rumours that Iheanacho is overweight: “He is at his weight. In that sense we are very strict. I don’t know about this week that he has not trained for a while, but this time he has been.”

For Leeds, who clearly seem keen on signing a striker in January, Iheanacho could be a shrewd capture.

He’s massively experienced in the Premier League with 42 goals at that level, and he’s surely desperate to play some regular football after a tough half-season in Spain.

Available for nothing too, this could be a very exciting potential signing for the Whites. Wages though could be an obstacle.
