A handful of Leeds United players have been linked with the exit door at Elland Road this month, and now it is claimed The 49ers will green light one of Daniel Farke’s mainstay players.
Six Leeds players have been linked with a move from Leeds this month. Junior Firpo’s camp are planning for a transfer, with Besiktas eyeing Firpo while old club Real Betis are leading the race for his signature.
Meanwhile, Tottenham want to sign Pascal Struijk given their issues at centre-back which is currently seeing Archie Gray out of position. Ally McCoist declared over the weekend he feels sorry for Gray.
However, one Leeds player is currently receiving a lot of criticism, and that is goalkeeper Illan Meslier, who was likely at fault for all three goals against Hull City on Saturday.
Leeds is finally ready to greenlight the January sale of Illan Meslier.
The 24-year-old goalkeeper has 14 clean sheets in 26 Championship games, allowing only 19 goals. However, the Frenchman, one of Leeds’ two vice-captains, has been linked with an Elland Road exit.
Rennes are interested in Meslier, who is valued around £15 million, and Arsenal and Manchester United have also been linked with surprise approaches for him. According to the Mail, Leeds will consider offers for Meslier in the coming weeks.
Indeed, the 49ers will make a bid for Meslier this month if the price is right. Meslier is now in the final 18 months of his contract, and Leeds’ chances of getting a reasonable price are minimal after Saturday.
Meslier, on the other hand, remains an important member of Farke’s Leeds squad, having started and finished all 26 Championship games in 2024-25.
What Jon Newsome said about selling Illan Meslier on weekend
Former Leeds player Newsome was in attendance on Saturday and watched Meslier play a significant part in squandering away the club’s two-goal lead against Hull. The second goal conceded was an absolute shambles.
Speaking after the match, Newsome stated that he would not sell Meslier this month since the club would not receive the amount of money they believe he is worth – the exact figure is unknown.
It will be intriguing to see who starts against Harrogate in the FA Cup on Saturday, with Karl Darlow expected to replace Meslier. It will be even more telling who plays in goal against Sheffield Wednesday.
