Daniel Farke has stated on several times that he expects Leeds United to have a quiet January transfer window, but the rumour mill claims the Whites are working behind the scenes.
While Daniel Farke hinted at the need for a striker, he stated last week that he anticipates a quiet window at Elland Road. So far, the only news is that striker Joe Gelhardt is set to join nearby rivals Hull City.
Charlie Crew is also expected to depart Leeds on loan by the February 3 deadline. However, current speculations suggest that one Wales international may leave while another joins the club.
Leeds are ‘trying heavily’ to sign Welsh defender Ben Davies.
Leeds have previously been connected with Davies. The senior Spurs player has now spent more than ten years with the club, only nine games shy of 350 appearances, but his contract expires in June.
Leeds are now interested in Davies again, with the Spurs left-back formerly calling Leeds as a “massive club”. Davies is a realistic target given Max Wober’s injury difficulties and Junior Firpo’s contract uncertainty.
According to a recent update from TeamTalk, Leeds are ‘pushing heavily’ to sign Davies before the end of January deadline. The source also alleges that a ‘cut-price’ agreement is in the works to sign Davies.
What Joe Rodon said about his Wales colleague Ben Davies in 2022
Leeds presently has five Wales internationals, including Crew. Joe Rodon is another, along with captain Ethan Ampadu, winger Dan James, and goalkeeper Karl Darlow, while Connor Roberts left Leeds in June.
Speaking about his 92-time Wales teammate in 2022, Rodon revealed that Davies enjoys a 50-50 and praised a tackle with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg as one of the best things he’s seen on a football ground.
“I’ve seen this man go into 50-50s and come out with everything—shin pads, boots, everything. A prime example is him and Hojbjerg going for a 50-50, which is one of the best things I’ve ever witnessed. “Ben won.”
Tottenham’s extensive injury list has forced Archie Gray to play at centre-back in recent weeks, so Leeds may have to wait for some players to return before considering selling the defender.
