According to a fresh rumor, Leeds United and the 49ers are both looking to sign a “clinical” striker for Daniel Farke this month.
Leeds United Transfer News
After the 3-3 Championship tie against Hull City over the weekend, Farke admitted that he doesn’t “expect much” in terms of incomings this month, as he isn’t a “big fan” of this transfer window. However, considering the Whites’ desire to return to the Premier League, they may be open to signing one or two new players if opportunities arise.
According to the Sun, Leeds are in talks to sign defender Andrew Omobamidele this month. The Ireland international currently plays for Nottingham Forest, but he has fallen out of favour under Nuno Espirito Santo, and a move could take place this month. Forest are willing to allow the defender leave on loan with a buy-back clause. Leeds, however, may face stiff competition from Sheffield United, who are also interested in signing Omobamidele.
While Omobamidele may arrive at Elland Road, current Leeds defender Junior Firpo could be on his way out. According to reports, the defender’s team is preparing for a return to Real Betis, his previous club. According to reports, talks between Betis and Firpo’s camp have already begun through intermediaries.
Leeds are interested in recruiting “clinical” forwards.
Omobamidele may not be the only new addition for the Yorkshire club; according to The Daily Mail’s sports print edition, as relayed by Football League World, Leeds are interested in acquiring Mergim Berisha from Bundesliga side Hoffenheim.
The 26-year-old, described as a “clinical finisher” by Football Chatters, has been at Hoffenheim since August 2023. The forward shined for Red Bull Salzburg in the 2020/21 season, scoring 14 goals in 28 Bundesliga appearances, prompting a move to Fenerbahce. He was unable to reproduce his form in Turkey, so he moved to Germany and played for FC Augsburg before joining Hoffenheim.

Despite his current form, Farke is interested in the striker, whom he may be familiar with due to his coaching experience in the Bundesliga. Mergim’s versatility as a centre striker and winger could be another reason why the Leeds manager is interested in him. This is not the first time the Whites have been connected with a bid for the youngster; in 2022, they were in discussions to sign Mergim while he was playing for Fenerbahce, but the Turkish club wanted €5 million.
