Report explains what initial testing at Nottingham Forest have revealed concerning Taiwo Awoniyi’s ailment

Before kickoff today, Nottingham Forest fans received devastating news: Taiwo Awoniyi had sustained an injury.

The 26-year-old was absent for Nottingham Forest’s 1-1 draw with Luton Town.

The Athletic has revealed additional information about Nottingham Forest No.9 Taiwo Awoniyi.

    Taiwo Awoniyi Injury Update

According to The Athletic, initial examinations on the Nigerian indicate that he would miss “a number” of other Nottingham Forest matches.

Nuno Espirito Santo would prefer not to hear about his talisman during a relegation struggle.

The injury is also expected to keep Awoniyi out of Nigeria’s forthcoming games against Ghana and Mali, where he was named to the team by Jose Peseiro last week.

Chris Wood filled in admirably for the Nigeria international in today’s 1-1 draw against Luton Town, scoring in the 34th minute to win Nuno’s team a point in the relegation zone.

Awoniyi, who was overheard insulting Harry Toffolo during Neco Williams training, has six goals and three assists in 20 games this season.

Sky Sports recently reported that he had a higher goalscoring rate than Erling Haaland; in truth, no striker in the Premier League has been as clinical as the guy from Ilorin in recent years.

    Nottingham Forest has cover.

As upsetting as Awoniyi’s injury is, Nuno’s depth will help him in the relegation battle.

The Portuguese strategist may, of course, call on Wood, who has ten goals in 26 appearances this season.

Nuno also has Divock Origi to lead the line, and Anthony Elanga has experience playing centrally from his stint at Manchester United.

Hopefully, Awoniyi will not be out for long, considering Nottingham Forest has only nine games left in the 2023/24 season.

Can Nuno’s team survive without the £17.5 million man? Only time will tell.
