A manager fired by Nottingham Forest in 2020 is currently in the running for a top post in Ligue 1.
The Reds had gone through several managers before landing on Steve Cooper for the 2021/22 season.
As they say, the rest is history.
Although Cooper has left, he was the guy who brought Premier League football back to the City Ground, and the sacking culture appears to be a thing of the past.
Nuno Espirito Santo has taken over at Trentside, and he hopes to rebuild the team and get it moving in the right path for next season.
For one former Forest manager, however, his next job could be significant.
Lille puts Sabri Lamouchi on the management shortlist.
According to L’Equipe, Sabri Lamouchi is currently on the managerial shortlist to succeed Paulo Fonseca if he leaves.
According to reports, Fonseca is poised to be named AC Milan’s new manager, creating a vacancy.
Lamouchi is largely considered as the man who helped unite a fan base while at Forest.
He replaced Martin O’Neill, and despite his pragmatic playing style, he helped the club achieve some significant results.
Lamouchi’s season ended in disappointment, as Forest missed out on the play-offs during the pandemic-hit 2019/20 season.
He then lost four consecutive games the following season and was replaced by Chris Hughton.
Lamouchi concluded his spell at Forest with a 36% win percentage in 55 matches, and he has subsequently managed Al-Duhail and Cardiff.
Fonseca will be a difficult act to follow for Lamouchi.
If Lamouchi is selected, he may face a difficult task.
Lille has just finished fourth in Ligue 1, and he will manage in the Champions League, although in the qualification round.
It would be Lamouchi’s largest gig to date, and the bar would be set high.
However, he is a very proud man, and as he shown at Forest, Lamouchi excels at bringing people together and uniting a fan base.
His style may be a change of pace for Lille, since Fonseca is known for his attractive attacking football.
That may not be something Lamouchi chooses to do, and it will be interesting to see how the former Forest incumbent performs if he is hired.
