Following his dismissal from Nottingham Forest in December, an EFL team is looking to hire Steve Cooper as their new manager.
The 44-year-old has been out of work since, and last week it was reported that Cooper turned down Norwich.
Another Championship club is now looking to test the waters and entice Cooper to return to management.
The Welshman beat the odds at Forest, propelling the club from the basement of the second division to the Premier League in a short of months.
Now, he’ll be a wanted man this summer and may have to make a decision in the coming weeks.
Burnley want to appoint Steve Cooper to replace Vincent Kompany.
The Sun on Sunday reported on the shortlist that Burnley has now produced.
Cooper has been included for his performance at Forest, and former Derby manager Frank Lampard is also in the running.
The man who led Swansea to the Championship play-off final has been patiently waiting for another opportunity.
He was fired by Forest in December after a frightening sequence of results that saw the Reds drop into the bottom three.
Cooper had previously supervised poor form since Forest’s return to the Premier League, and Evangelos Marinakis gave him plenty of time.
Cooper may have to accept an EFL post to return to work after Forest.
Despite some people expecting he’d waltz into another Premier League position, Cooper’s life hasn’t been easy since leaving Forest.
The former Reds incumbent hasn’t received many job offers, and he may have to accept a championship role.
Cooper would presumably not be scared to do so, and Burnley may provide an interesting opportunity.
The majority of the current squad was present when the Clarets won the Championship by a landslide in 2022/23, which might benefit their prospects next season.
Furthermore, Burnley should have money to invest, allowing Cooper to construct the squad as he sees appropriate.
Forest has moved on from Cooper, and perhaps it is time for the head coach to do the same and return to work.
