Nottingham Forest are going all out this month to sign new players, and they have now made a bid for a Premier League forward.
Evangelos Marinakis hopes to bring a new forward to Forest this month. The Reds are third in the Premier League and on the verge of something extremely remarkable heading into the final months of the 2024/25 season.
Mathys Tel has been related to Forest. Despite being complimented by Harry Kane, he will not be joining Forest this month as he looks to give things a proper go in Germany with Bayern Munich before making a final decision in the summer.
Forest overcame Southampton 3-2 on Sunday, continuing their outstanding run of success. With just a few days until their next game away at Bournemouth, the Reds appear to be stepping up their efforts to sign new players this month.
Brentford tell Nottingham Forest what they need to do to sign Yoane Wissa.
According to The Athletic, Forest have bid £22 million to entice Wissa away from Brentford this month. The striker will be out of contract in the summer of 2026 and with a new one not forthcoming his valuation might dwindle.
However, the Bees appear to be willing to take the chance. They alerted Forest that the deal did not reach their valuation and recommended the Reds to boost the ante in order to sign the versatile forward this month.
Wissa has been in excellent scoring form this season. The 28-year-old has 11 goals in 19 appearances, trailing only Erling Haaland, Cole Palmer, Mohamed Salah, Alexander Isak, Bryan Mbuemo, and Forest forward Chris Wood.
Brentford recruited Wissa from Lorient, France. He moved to London ahead of the club’s first season in the Premier League and has scored 41 goals in 133 games for the Bees, contributing significantly to Thomas Frank’s team.
Wissa’s signing will be terrible news for Taiwo Awoniyi
There is some speculation that Forest will utilize Wissa out wide, but given that he mostly plays as a striker, it’s best to assume he’s a replacement for Awoniyi.
Forest signed Awoniyi from Union Berlin for a mere £18 million. He has more than redeemed that cost, with 11 goals in the 2022/23 season helping to keep the Reds in the Premier League.
West Ham are looking to sign Awoniyi this month. It’s unclear whether a loan or a permanent contract would be preferred, but if Wissa signs, Forest will almost certainly welcome a sell.
The Reds will want to preserve their top league position as the season nears its close. Signing Wissa will undoubtedly assist, but it remains to be seen whether a breakthrough can be achieved in the negotiations.
