Gary O’Neil has revealed what surprises him about Nottingham Forest this season, as he prepares to lead his Wolves side to the City Ground this Saturday.
Nottingham Forest and Wolves drew 1-1 at Molineux back in December, with Harry Toffolo scoring for the Reds.
However, a similar result will do little to help Nottingham Forest this time around, as only four goals separate Nuno Espirito Santo’s side from Luton in 18th place.
So, what about Nottingham Forest has stunned Gary O’Neil? Let us have a look.
Gary O’Neil is startled by Nottingham Forest
The man from Beckenham can’t believe Nottingham Forest are in 17th place.
O’Neil confessed in a press conference earlier on Friday that he expected a lot more from the Reds this season, especially given Evangelos Marinakis’ investment.
The BBC quotes the 40-year-old as adding, “When I look at the depth they have and the money they’ve spent, it’s a real surprise that they are where they are.”
In truth, we must agree.
Nottingham Forest’s summer signings appeared to be very promising, with electrifying wingers like as Anthony Elanga and Callum Hudson-Odoi joining to improve the attack.
Ibrahim Sangare, a quality midfield talent who previously played for PSV Eindhoven in UEFA Champions League qualifying before going to the City Ground for £30 million, has also joined the squad.
Unfortunately, Steve Cooper was unable to form a coherent team with these new additions, and Nuno has struggled to pull together a winning streak despite the talent available to him.
Relegation would create pandemonium.
As previously said, Nottingham Forest has several good footballers who would probably want to stay in the Premier club – or another major European club – if relegation occurs.
It implies that relegation to the Championship is likely to generate significant player turnover at the City Ground, with stars like Morgan Gibbs-White and Murillo almost certainly leaving.
Even if Nottingham Forest survives, Tottenham might still make a move for Gibbs-White.
Hopefully, relegation is avoided; otherwise, Marinakis will most likely have to oversee another busy summer of incomings and outgoings at the City Ground.
