According to the most recent Spanish rumors, Real Madrid still considers purchasing Trent Alexander-Arnold during the winter transfer window. On New Year’s Eve, Liverpool rejected the Spanish club’s offer to sign the team’s vice-captain.
They were reportedly willing to pay roughly £20 million to complete a deal, but the Reds rejected any attempts to negotiate terms. Almost a fortnight later, it appears that no additional official moves have occurred. Madrid may now speak directly with the player about a pre-contract arrangement rather than having to approach his original club first.
Speculation in Madrid continues, however, since the club has yet to replace injured right-back Dani Carvajal. That noise will only become louder after Barcelona defeated them 5-2 in the Spanish Super Cup final on Sunday.
Fichajes claims that the disappointing defeat has accelerated their summer transfer intentions. Alexander-Arnold is one of three primary targets, according to reports.
The other players are Bournemouth center defender Dean Huijsen, a Dutch-born Spain under-21 international, and former Liverpool transfer target Martin Zubimendi. Initial moves are reportedly ongoing for those two, but the rather inevitable rumour is that a deal to sign Alexander-Arnold is nearing completion.
However, Marca says that Madrid is still considering signing the England international before he becomes a free agent. They claim the team still hopes to finalize a contract this month.
It follows Cadena SER’s statement last week that it would take something surprising for Alexander-Arnold to leave Liverpool. The Reds signing a successor this month would appear to satisfy that billing, but the station recognized that it would be extremely difficult to do before the window closed.
However, Alexander-Arnold has already stated his position on the possibility of a midseason switch. In a September interview, the player stated, “I want to be a Liverpool player this season [as a minimum].”
According to the ECHO, Liverpool want to keep the prominent full-back in their ranks at least until the end of the season as they aim for Premier League triumph under Arne Slot.
