The defender is apparently Real Madrid’s top pick, but if he refuses Liverpool’s extension offers, the club may not gain a free transfer.
With two months until international clubs may approach the three Liverpool players who are out of contract this summer, no extension agreement has been reached. Virgil van Dijk is the only one who has verified that such conversations have commenced.
The ECHO understands Mohamed Salah wishes to stay at Anfield, but Trent Alexander-Arnold has been more vague in his public comments. “I want to be a Liverpool player this season (as a minimum) is what I will say,” he stated as recently as October.
There are more concerns about the right-back’s potential departure than about his two teammates. Salah and Van Dijk may have less prestigious alternatives who can provide comparable salary and status, but the much younger Alexander-Arnold, 26, does not.
Real Madrid’s current right-back alternatives, Dani Carvajal and Lucas Vazquez, are both over the age of 32. However, another European powerhouse may be mulling an intercepting summer raid.
PSG ‘spying’ on Alexander-Arnold
According to Sport, Paris Saint-Germain are considering signing Alexander-Arnold. The story makes the unfounded claim that Liverpool’s vice-captain has previously turned down offers to renew his contract.
It adds that the player is seriously considering leaving Anfield. Sporting director Richard Hughes is believed to have prioritized his contract renewal.
If things do not go as planned, PSG may attempt to bring Alexander-Arnold to Paris on a free transfer this summer. Alexander-Arnold will be able to negotiate pre-contract agreements with abroad clubs starting in January.
Real ‘build’ backup plan.
Spanish publication According to AS, if Alexander-Arnold decides to stay at Liverpool, Real Madrid will consider Tottenham right-back Pedro Porro as a mid-term replacement. According to the report, the Liverpool ace is Real Madrid’s top target this summer.
However, Los Blancos officials are thrilled with Porro’s growth and believe he would fit in well at the Bernabeu. He’s been on their radar for a while, and they’ve been tracking his improvement in recent years, according to reports.
Porro played the entire 90 minutes in both of Spain’s Nations League games last month, and his assist against Serbia drew the attention of the viewing audience. Nonetheless, he is regarded as a poorer option than Alexander-Arnold.
