- Leeds will not sell Gray, who is contracted to the club until 2028, unless the promotion bid fails, resulting in a high fee.
- Gray’s talent could lead him to a great European club in the future, but Leeds is the best place for him to develop right now.
Real Madrid and Bayern Munich have both been tracking Leeds United’s Archie Gray as they ponder a transfer for the precocious youngster.
Archie Gray develops as a Leeds United star.
The 18-year-old had been highly regarded at Elland Road for some time, and his family ties ensured he was always a player in the spotlight.
And he has lived up to the promise this season, establishing himself as a regular under Daniel Farke as Leeds sit second in the Championship and look to win automatic promotion.
Championship Table (As it stands April 2nd) | ||||
Team | P | GD | Pts | |
1 | Ipswich Town | 40 | 33 | 87 |
2 | Leeds United | 40 | 44 | 86 |
3 | Leicester City | 39 | 42 | 85 |
4 | Southampton | 38 | 25 | 74 |
Whether he has played in central midfield or, more often, at right-back, Gray has impressed with his quality on the ball and his intensity off it.
Bayern Munich and Real Madrid keeping tabs on Archie Gray
It is quite unusual for someone so young to play regularly in the Championship, therefore it is somewhat unsurprising that Gray is drawing interest from some of the world’s greatest clubs.
Liverpool is rumored to be interested in the teenager, and Spurs are also said to be interested.
However, in a new update, HITC indicated that there is international interest, revealing that European giants Bayern Munich and Real Madrid are also looking at Gray.
“HITC is aware that Bayern Munich and Real Madrid were represented versus Hull on Monday. Both Bayern and Real Madrid have long admired Gray, who is emerging as one of England’s most sought-after young players.”
Leeds United are under no pressure to trade Archie Gray.
As previously stated, Gray has a family history with the club, thus Leeds are near to his heart, and it is difficult to imagine him pushing for a departure.
In reality, all evidence point to the opposite, with the boy currently enjoying life in Yorkshire.
Crucially, he has a contract at Elland Road that expires in the summer of 2028, so the club is protected, and they will be able to demand a large amount if anyone attempts to bring Gray in during the next window.
Of course, the situation could change if the Whites do not earn promotion. Another year in the Championship would be far from ideal financially, therefore selling Gray may be necessary to balance the books and allow the manager to bring in new players.
However, if Leeds wins promotion, which appears to be a possibility given their current form, maintaining Gray should be quite simple.
That would allow the player to put himself to the test at a higher level, and his value would only rise if he demonstrated his ability to compete with the best.
Archie Gray is destined for the top.
While Leeds will be confident in keeping Gray, there may come a moment when they are unable to stop him, since he has immense potential.
He has demonstrated exceptional talent this season, and seeing him play makes you forget how young he is.
So, while a move to a major European club like Bayern Munich or Real Madrid isn’t out of the question, Leeds appears to be the best environment for Gray to develop right now.
