Rasmus Kristensen update: Leeds United confront the transfer choice with huge wages emerging

Leeds United could make a return for right-back Rasmus Kristensen this summer, as he is unlikely to be bought by Roma following his loan term.

Brenden Aaronson was the first of the loan players to have his future decided for the 23/24 season, returning to Leeds for “unfinished business”.

Others are unsure of their situation, but Rasmus Kristensen could be returning to Elland Road to join his former Red Bull Salzburg teammates.

Here’s an overview of Kristensen’s transfer position for the second half of June.

How much did he cost Leeds?

In the summer of 2022, Leeds signed Kristensen from Red Bull Salzburg for a reputed £10 million to bolster the side’s right-back position under Jesse Marsch.

In the process, he signed a deal that runs until 2027, which currently has three years remaining.

    Will Kristensen return to Leeds?

At the present, nothing is set in stone for the Dane as he prepares for Euro 2024, which begins at 5 p.m. on Sunday against Slovenia.

However, the argument behind Aaronson’s return was that he was too expensive a signing to write off with a cut-price sale, which would affect the club’s PSR, while also filling a huge vacancy in the team by joining it.

The same can be said for Kristensen, given that he has no permanent suitors and Leeds will not let him move on loan, and he would also bring depth to the squad in a position of need at right-back.

He’s unlikely to struggle week in and week out as he did in the top division, since we’ve seen a significant improvement in Junior Firpo’s performance in the side.

How much does Kristensen earn at Leeds?

Kristensen joined Leeds in the top tier and was earning £40,000 per week, according to Capology, or £2,080,000 per year.

According to The Athletic, Kristensen will face a 50-60% pay cut, as have the rest of the squad.

This should reduce his weekly wages to between £16,000 and £20,000 while Leeds is in the Championship.
