Philippe Clement pleaded with the Rangers’ management not to fall into another situation where key players were dragging down their contracts.
The Belgian manager suffered a hard summer of downsizing as many key Rangers players left and the club cut £6 million from its salary bill.
Replacing John Lundstram, Connor Goldson, and Borna Barisic on a tight budget was never going to be simple.
Looking ahead to the summer, Rangers face the very real prospect of losing another crucial player for free as Ianis Hagi’s renegotiated contract at Ibrox expires.
Ianis Hagi reveals Rangers’ contract situation
Rangers manager Philippe Clement revealed that Ianis Hagi’s contract was running out before of the weekend’s match against Fraserburgh.
According to the Daily Record, there are currently no ‘negotiations’ planned between Rangers and Ianis Hagi regarding a new contract.
However, the source details the Rangers playmaker’s openness to negotiate a new contract if it benefits all sides.
According to a source close to the Romanian playmaker, Hagi is ‘glad’ in Glasgow and eager to hear what Rangers ‘have to say’ about a new contract.
The claim comes after Philippe Clement suggested that negotiations between Rangers and Ianis Hagi are in the works.
“He will be end of contract at the end of the season,” according to Clement.
“So there will be conversations about whether or not that is possible.
“I don’t have a clue what numbers that Ianis has in mind or the club so that’s discussions between them.”
Rangers playmaker Haig is seeking opportunities in France and Italy.
He was banished to the club’s reserves due to a pay clause in his contract, but was reinstated in October.
Ianis Hagi has finally begun to find form at Rangers after a rocky few years marked by injuries and a failed loan stay at Spanish club Alaves.
However, Ianis Hagi is now theoretically free to talk terms elsewhere, as his contract with the Rangers expires at the conclusion of the season.
There look to be several suitors for the Romanian attacking midfielder.
Strasbourg, from Ligue 1, was linked in October of last year, while Genoa, from Serie A, has also been referenced in dispatches.
