Rangers could hire a new temporary manager in a “whirlwind” 24 hours after Philippe Clement was fired.
Clement’s tenure at Rangers came to an end on Sunday (February 23), when his departure was confirmed.
After losing 2-0 to St Mirren on Saturday (22 February), the Belgian had no way back, even with little to play for this season.
Rangers ready for Barry Ferguson appointment.
With Clement out, the Gers are looking for a new manager to help them stabilize the ship at Ibrox.
Despite the fact that the Gers hierarchy previously supported the manager, it appears that fan demands made their way into the boardroom at Ibrox, with a recognition that the present form is insufficient.
According to the Daily Record (February 24), Barry Ferguson will be offered the opportunity.
Any agreement would be short-term, with the Gers trying to select a temporary replacement before making a permanent decision at the end of the season.
It is said that a deal may be finalized within 24 hours, with negotiations between Ferguson and his former club already underway.
Ferguson most recently managed Alloa Athletic, but resigned in 2022 after struggling during the season.
The 47-year-old has also had permanent spells with Kelty Hearts and Clyde, but his first managerial experience came as a caretaker for Blackpool in 2014, where he helped the Tangerines avoid relegation.
Rangers have to take their time with their new appointment
Clement’s exit from Ibrox was inevitable given how poorly things have gone in Glasgow this term.
While there have been some good results in there, the Belgian has struggled to find consistency with his side and, consequently, performances and results have often been well below the expected levels.
With the Light Blues 13 points behind Celtic in the league, it demonstrates how far the Gers have fallen from grace in recent years, and reform is absolutely required.
When it comes to a replacement, the Glasgow club must ensure that they set a new standard rather than repeating the mistakes of the past.
However, with rumors of a 49ers Enterprises takeover circulating, the new owners may want to show their own faces whenever a deal is finalized.
With that in mind, appointing Ferguson till the end of the campaign might provide the much-needed boost at Ibrox.
Under Clement, standards slipped dramatically, and the club’s expectations were unclear.
As a result, bringing in someone who understands where the Ibrox club should be competing and can provide a morale boost might certainly help matters in the meantime.
