Rangers are ready for a “shock” proposal from Chelsea for Jefte during the winter transfer window, according to The Scottish Sun.
The news agency said on its website [27 January] that the Brazilian’s reps notified the Gers that Chelsea was interested in his services.
Rangers are yet to receive an offer from Premier League giants [Chris Jack], but initial contact has been made as the London club considers a move in the final days of the transfer window.
Rangers could not afford to lose Jefte to Chelsea.
Philippe Clement can’t afford to lose Jefte so late in the transfer window.
Since joining from Fluminense in the summer, the 21-year-old has become a regular in the Belgian’s first-team plans and is one of only a few players who could form the long-term project at Ibrox.
Furthermore, Jefte has been one of the Light Blues’ only consistent defensive options this season, with James Tavernier, Leon Balogun, John Souttar, Dujon Sterling, and Neraysho Kasanwirjo all on the bench.
It will be difficult for Clement to thwart Chelsea’s interest, especially if Todd Boehly whips out the chequebook like he has done so many times since taking over in West London.
However, Ibrox News discovered on December 27 that fellow full-back Ridvan Yilmaz is the priority exit for this window and, despite the absence of actual interest thus far, should be the more likely of the two to leave.
Rangers would have little time to identify a suitable replacement and should stave off Chelsea’s offer for the time being. A summer exit is more likely, giving Clement more opportunities to bolster his team.
