Che Adams is “almost certain” to leave Southampton on a free transfer this summer, but Leeds United must gain promotion to bring him to Elland Road, according to Carlton Palmer.
The former Leeds player insisted Adams has both international and Premier League experience, making him a desirable asset to interested clubs.
Adams is thought to be frustrated that he was unable to leave Southampton in January, which has caused problems for the striker, who is not the first-choice option at St Mary’s.
Palmaer said Football League World [16 April]: “It’s pretty clear that Che Adams will leave Southampton this summer. He was disappointed that he was not permitted to quit the football club, as is the club’s right.
“If the transaction was not acceptable, he should not be permitted to leave the football club. That has been a problem for Che, although he has yet to make a regular start for Southampton this season. He still has 14 goals.
“He has important international and Premier League experience, therefore Wolves and Leeds United are reportedly interested in him.
“At the end of the day, Leeds United have done really well under Daniel Farke, and they are vying for an automatic promotion. To have a chance of signing Che Adams, Leeds must be in the Premier League.
Leeds United wants to sign Che Adams in Southampton transfer news
Despite Palmer’s comments, it has already been said that Leeds will want to recruit Adams regardless of whether they are promoted this season, as Daniel Farke will look to bolster his attacking options by the end of the season.
Patrick Bamford and Joel Piroe have also been chastised this season, with Georginino Rutter and Crysencio Summerville frequently providing the final touch under Farke’s leadership.
After failing to score in two consecutive games at Elland Road, Farke’s team’s problems up front were evident against Blackburn, with Bamford and Piroe struggling in front of goal and unable to make a difference.
Adams, while not the most prolific of goal scorers, should increase Leeds’ chances in the future with his combative style and offensive ability, which has seen him impress for Southampton and Scotland.
