Pundit View: Leeds have a new argument against PL as financial news sends shockwaves.

Following the financial bombshell about Leicester City, Paul Robinson believes Leeds United will have an argument against the Premier League if they do not earn promotion this season.

The Foxes were charged and submitted to an independent panel for allegedly violating the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability guidelines during their previous three seasons in the top tier.

However, if they are found guilty, any points deduction will apply next season if they are promoted back to the Premier League, as highlighted by Kaveh Solhekol on Sky Sports News (21 March).

Speaking to MOT Leeds News, he said: “There are two ways to look at a points reduction from a Leeds perspective.

“If Leeds, as we hope, go up and Leicester start in the minuses, that’s wonderful for Leeds; however, if Leeds didn’t go up this season and Leicester had the points deducted next season, there’s an argument over why.

“And if the financial breaches have been found this season why haven’t they been punished in this season the same way Everton have been?”

Do Leeds United have a case against the Premier League following the Leicester City news?

The problematic part is that Leicester is no longer in the Premier League (or at least not at the present), so any point deduction would have to wait.

Let’s say for argument’s sake. Leeds and Leicester get promoted, although the Foxes are deducted points to start next season, which might be extremely handy for the Whites.

However, if they fail to cross the finish line, the Leeds management will undoubtedly become frustrated.

It’s all a bit of a muddle, and it takes away from what the talking points should be about: the real football.
