Pundit View: Leeds already preparing for star’s exit, with ‘Fantastic Signing’ speculated at Elland Road

Leeds United are reportedly “bracing” for bids for Ilia Gruev and Archie Gray as they ponder a move for Tottenham midfielder Oliver Skipp, according to Carlton Palmer.

According to reports, the Whites are eager to sell the 18-year-old midfielder during the summer transfer window in order to replace him with the Spurs player who is leaving.

Although commentator Palmer believes the 23-year-old’s salary may be a concern, he admits Skipp would be a “fantastic” addition for Daniel Farke, especially if one or two of their big-name midfielders go.

According to Football League World (14 June), he stated: “Oliver Skipp is a really brilliant 23-year-old from Spurs; Farke brought him to Norwich in 2021, and they eventually won the Championship at a canter.

“While he has played and has some game time at Spurs, he is not playing on a regular basis, so a loan move makes a lot of sense.” His weekly income of £40,000 may be a stumbling point.

“I believe Leeds are bracing for offers for Archie Gray or Gruev. There is still a lot of interest in [Wilfried] Gnonto and [Crysencio] Summerville, so it will be another hectic summer for Leeds in terms of signings and departures.

“Skipp has been there and won the Championship, this would be a fantastic signing if Leeds can pull it off.”

Will Leeds United sell Archie Gray and Ilia Gruev this summer?

After missing out on promotion back to the Premier League this summer, some of Leeds United’s biggest names are expected to leave this summer.

Summerville and Gray’s futures have been discussed since the full-time whistle in the playoff final, and Gruev has been linked with transfers away from Elland Road on numerous occasions.

If the players who were so important to Farke’s campaign last season leave, Leeds will need to replace them with other true difference makers, and Skipp can be just that at Championship level.

He may not be as interesting as Gray, but he understands how the Whites boss operates and how to get out of the Championship. If he hits the ground running at Elland Road, he may be a valuable addition.
