Kieffer Moore, Ipswich Town’s striker, is “unlikely” to play in this weekend’s derby against Norwich City, with Leeds United in second place.
The matches continue to seem like a huge test for the Championship’s top four, with Leeds and Ipswich both facing teams aiming to finish sixth in the league by May.
Leeds will go to Coventry City after facing fierce rivals Norwich City.
Ipswich team news: Kieffer Moore is injured.
Leeds fans watched with anticipation on Easter Monday as Southampton faced Ipswich at Portman Road, with the ideal outcome being the Saints grabbing the lead.
At the time, an innocuous collision between Kieffer Moore and Jan Bednarek required the Welsh striker to leave the field for treatment, and when he returned, he couldn’t play for long due to severe back pain.
His replacements came through for Kieran McKenna in dramatic fashion, but Moore’s absence could be a concern with six games remaining.
McKenna offers a worrying Moore assessment for Ipswich.
McKenna offered an update on Moore ahead of the East Anglian Derby, which does not look well for the Tractor Boys this weekend.
He said this to the East Anglian Daily Times.
“It was a fairly bad back spasm. He has not been able to participate in any team activities this week. Knowing Kieffer’s personality, he has not given up on some engagement. It’s not impossible, but I think it’s unlikely right now.
“We don’t believe it is anything long-term. We have two games next week (at home against Watford and Middlesbrough), and we hope he will play some part in them.”
Moore is a significant absence for Ipswich against Norwich.
It doesn’t appear to be a massive issue for Ipswich, but missing such a key focal point for their biggest game of the season thus far is concerning.
Leeds could benefit from Norwich doing them a favor, and they will be ready for such a crucial derby for both sides.
If the Canaries have the opportunity to derail their local rivals, you would expect them to be quite eager to do so.
