The Premier League, Football Association, and Professional Game Match Officials Ltd confirmed the City Ground concept.

Semi-automated offside technology will make its debut in English football during seven of the eight FA Cup fifth-round matches.

The technology will be deployed in all Premier League stadiums, with the exception of the Preston v Burnley match. Nottingham Forest host Ipswich Town.

A statement issued on Thursday morning indicated that the Premier League intends to include the technology into its competition later in the season.

The Premier League anticipates that SAOT will cut the average length of offside checks by 31 seconds.

The Premier League, the Football Association, and Professional Game Match Officials Ltd stated in a joint statement that VAR will be used in all eight ties.

The Premier League collaborated with technology firm Genius Sports on the new offside system.

The original intention was to add it to the Premier League during one of last autumn’s international breaks, but those deadlines passed.

Speaking last week, Premier League chief football officer Tony Scholes stated that the technology would still be introduced this season.

“The system that we’ve adopted, we believe it to be the best system,” he told me.

“We believe it is the most accurate and future-proof solution as well. I have to admit that considering the problems we faced in the first few months of the season, I had serious misgivings, but the improvement made in the last four to six weeks has been tremendous.

Scholes claimed that adding it with only a few games remaining would not cause an integrity issue.

“The operation of semi-automated offside technology does not change the integrity of the offside law and doesn’t change the integrity of decision-making,” he told me.

“We have had 100% accuracy (on offside after VAR inspections) this season, so it will not increase our accuracy. It improves the process’s efficiency.
