Premier League club eager to sell star for £15 million; he truly desired Leeds United transfer last summer

Leeds United were linked with several players last summer as Daniel Farke sought to enhance his squad, and one of them is now available for a £15 million cost.

Gustavo Hamer, described by Enzo Maresca as the greatest player in the Championship before leaving Coventry City for Sheffield United, shone for the Sky Blues before being offered a move to the Premier League.

The 26-year-old had a role in 21 goals before to his move to The Blades, which enticed Sheffield United to bring him to Yorkshire ahead of their effort to avoid relegation in 2023-24.

While it did not work, Hamer, who was born in Brazil, impressed The Blades. He has contributed 12 goals in 38 games for Sheffield United, despite the fact that they are now at the bottom of the league and have changed managers.

However, with relegation on the horizon, Sheffield United are planning for the future and need to generate some revenue. According to Alan Nixon of The Sun, they are willing to sell Hamer for the same sum he was signed for, which is around £15 million.

Leeds wanted to sign Gustavo Hamer while Daniel Farke looked for a no.10.

Leeds were hoping to entice an attacking midfielder to Elland Road last summer, and the squad currently lacks this position. Before Georginio Rutter took over, Joel Piroe began the season as a 10.

Nadiem Amiri, Matt O’Riley, Kenny McLean, and a slew of other technically gifted midfielders were on the radar at Elland Road, as was Hamer, with sources saying Leeds made an offer for the playmaker.

Phil Hay stated that Hamer was interested in Leeds before Sheffield United swooped, with the temptation of the Premier League too much for Hamer to resist. But now his team is set to be demoted, so he’s on the move again.

Hamer would be an excellent signing for Leeds this summer.

In terms of why Leeds wanted Hamer, the lack of a natural no.10 and the ability to break down a low block, which the Whites have done numerous times this season, remain concerns.

Leeds will still have enough cash to pay £15 million on a player like Hamer, whether in the Premier League or the Championship. It is unclear whether Hamer is interested in a taste of the top flight.

But if there is a chance for Leeds to sign Hamer this summer, regardless of where division we play in next season, Farke and the 49ers must do so. He would be an excellent acquisition.
