Porto handed major injury boost before Arsenal Champions League clash

Porto striker Mehdi Taremi is back in contention to face Arsenal in the Champions League

A significant injury boost has been granted to Porto ahead of their second leg Champions League last-16 matchup with Arsenal. Galeno’s dramatic last-second goal gave the Portuguese team the first-leg advantage, brutally ending Arsenal’s five-game winning streak.

The Gunners defeated Newcastle and Sheffield United to recover from their European setback. Kai Havertz scored a late goal to give Mikel Arteta’s team a 2-1 victory over Brentford this past weekend.

Oleksandr Zinchenko was the most recent player to return from injury after struggling with a muscular problem. He had an 11-minute cameo on Saturday, which left Arteta with a crucial choice for Tuesday night’s Champions League match. Gabriel Jesus and Thomas Partey had both recently returned from injury.

A number of players remain absent due to injuries, including Takehiro Tomiyasu and Jurrien Timber. Gabriel Martinelli, who was forced off against Sheffield United due to a foot injury and missed the London derby against Brentford, joined the defensive partnership last Monday as an absentee.

Prior to the match, Arteta provided an update on the Brazil international, implying that his injury is not significant. He said, “We will attempt to get him back (for Porto).” “With Gabi it’s never too serious, because you know how he is.” Martinelli is extremely unlikely to play against Porto despite Arteta’s upbeat statement after being spotted by football.London using crutches to navigate the mixed zone.

Regarding Porto, seasoned striker Mehdi Taremi has returned to training ahead of the second game after missing the first due to a thigh injury. This information was obtained via @FCPortoGlobal on X (formerly Twitter). It seems improbable that the 31-year-old will start the match at Emirates Stadium after missing the previous few weeks.

Evanilson, who has scored 21 goals this season—including four in his six Champions League appearances—and six goals in his previous ten games, is also in excellent form. From a Porto standpoint, Taremi was allowed to return for training, but Arteta did not experience the same advantage.
