Niko Katic would support a move to Rangers during the transfer window as his representative initiates talks, according to the Daily Record.
The tabloid said online (7 January) that the now Zurich defender’s representation has began negotiations concerning his future with a return to Rangers desirable.
With Philippe Clement’s career at Rangers on the line, additions to his squad will be critical throughout the window to help his team surge in the second half of the season.
The Record reported in their own headline that Katic is “desperate” for a Rangers comeback.
According to the Record, a source close to the player’s representation stated: “We haven’t heard anything definite yet, but we’ve seen some reports in the media, and Niko would love to return to Rangers.
“We are currently in talks with several clubs, including one from England. However, if the Rangers knock on the door, Nikola will prioritize that. He still has 18 months left on his contract with Zurich. But if he is supposed to return to the Rangers, he will be there.”
Is Niko Katic about to return to the Rangers?
With the January transfer window open, Clement will be looking at targets for the Gers for the month, though the 28-year-old may have his own name on the list.
The defender’s time in Glasgow came to an end when he suffered a catastrophic ACL injury, prompting the club to let him leave.
However, Katic appears to be back on the Gers’ radar, having made 18 appearances in the Swiss Super League this season.
There is little doubt that the former Light Blues player is eager to return to Ibrox and finish what he started, and it may be a suitable transfer.
The Gers are extremely low on defensive alternatives, with James Tavernier and John Souttar out due to injuries, implying that Clement will undoubtedly require defensive reinforcements.
As someone who understands the club and what it means to be a Rangers player in a more successful era, Katic might be just what the Gers need to tackle various problems at Ibrox.
