Player confesses Nottingham Forest move was a ‘risky gamble’; leaving former club ‘like a heartbreak’

Loïc Mbe Soh, a Nottingham Forest defender, is now featured on Paris Saint Germain’s official website.

The defender, who left the French side for the Reds in 2020, reflected on his decision and the reasons behind it.

Mbe Soh claims that leaving PSG for Nottingham Forest was a dangerous move, especially given his youth.

“I spent seven years playing and growing up there. It was unavoidable that it would seem like heartbreak, because Paris had given me everything. Thanks to the club, I had an unforgettable experience, but it was time for me to begin on a new adventure.

“I needed to make something of myself, to step outside of my comfort zone. So I chose England, a dangerous gamble away from home, but a well-thought-out one,” Mbe Soh told PSG’s official channel.
Last summer, Nottingham Forest loaned Mbe Soh to Dutch club Almere City, and the player now professes to be content at the club, particularly given the amount of playing time he receives.
“This season, I’m on loan from Nottingham Forest in England to play for Almere City FC in the Dutch D1. I’ve played approximately twenty games across all competitions. I’m glad I came here to grab some gaming time.

“I’m attempting to make it in the professional world. It has not always been simple for me because I have had several injuries. What does not kill you, makes you stronger! Paris has given me the mental fortitude to continue getting back up. I’ve always had huge dreams, and that won’t change.”

Nottingham Forest paid €5 million to sign Mbe Soh from PSG in 2020. He remained at the City Ground for three years, but because he was still working his way up to the first squad, he only made 13 official appearances for the Reds.

In January 2023, the Premier League club determined that he should obtain more experience abroad.

So he was loaned out to French side Guingamp, and when he returned from his spell last summer, he was quickly transferred to Almere City, where he will remain until the end of the season.
