According to reports, Nottingham Forest beat West Ham United to the signing of Carlos Miguel.
According to UOL journalist Bruno Andrade, the Reds will sign the Corinthians goalkeeper on a five-year contract.
Both Nottingham Forest and West Ham had expressed interest in activating the player’s €4 million release clause, therefore the decision was left to the player.
According to Andrade, it is unclear whether Carlos Miguel will continue to play for Corinthians until the transfer market opens in July, or whether he will make the move sooner.
The timing of this deal has sparked considerable ire at the Brazilian club.
Corinthians’ goalie for many years was Cássio, a club icon. With him making several recent mistakes, supporters and the team felt it was time for Carlos Miguel to take a chance.
He received his first opportunities and remained in the position after Cássio was sold to Cruzeiro. Carlos Miguel has now decided to depart, making the situation even more difficult.
The €4 million release clause was arranged when he was still a backup player with little opportunities to dethrone a club legend. Nottingham Forest are now taking advantage of a rather difficult scenario.
