Chelsea have left Alfie Gilchrist out of their pre-season squad, despite interest from Leeds United, Preston, Sheffield United, and Blackburn, according to Ben Jacobs.
On July 22, the Give Me Sport journalist revealed that Leeds had already inquired about signing him on loan this summer.
However, it is believed that the 20-year-old right-back would most likely join Sheffield United or Preston.
Jacobs said on X: “Alfie Gilchrist is not on Chelsea’s tour of America. Gilchrist is part of a loan group that will remain in England until they find a new club in the following weeks. Championship is the most likely destination, as previously stated.”
“Understand that Preston and Sheffield United are the two most likely loan destinations for Gilchrist right now. Leeds and Blackburn were the other Championship clubs to make enquiries earlier in the window.”
Leeds United must act soon to emerge as the favourites to recruit Aflie Gilchrist.
To become the favourites for Gilchrist’s signature, the Whites must first contact his representation.
Gilchrist’s possible arrival at Elland Road might add much-needed depth and talent to the right-back position.
His expertise in top-flight football, while limited, might prove crucial to the Whites.
Furthermore, his versatility, which includes the ability to play centre-back, adds to his appeal.
Leeds must make a convincing case to Gilchrist, emphasizing their mission, the prospect of consistent playing time, and the opportunity to grow under their coaching staff.
Their ability to provide a clear path to first-team football may be the deciding factor in this transfer race.
Gilchrist, 20, is at a critical point in his career, and the prospect of continuous minutes may influence his decision in Leeds’ favor.
The club’s reputation of developing new talent, as well as its aim to return to the Premier League, could be appealing to the Chelsea player.
