Jack Clarke, a Leeds United academy graduate, appeared at Elland Road during Marcelo Bielsa’s inaugural season.
Following his signing by Tottenham, he was promptly loaned back to Leeds, where he faced issues on the pitch before moving for Sunderland in the north east.
Clarke’s future at Sunderland now appears uncertain, with the Black Cats unlikely to make a late surge for the Championship play-offs. Former Leeds player Carlton Palmer has questioned whether the club will consider re-signing him.
After loan spells at Stoke, QPR, and Sunderland, Clarke made only four senior appearances for Spurs. He then signed permanently with Sunderland, where he has 49 goals in 105 games.
Despite being sidelined with an injury, he has 15 goals and four assists in 35 games for Sunderland this season.
Lazio’s £15 million approach for him was rejected in January, with Sunderland apparently demanding £21 million, according to Calcio Mercato.
Dean Jones recently indicated on GIVEMESPORT that if Leeds are promoted, Jack Clarke is the type of player they will pursue. Former Whites midfielder Palmer addressed the reports, telling Football League World that signing Clarke is an impossible option for the team.
