‘Pathetic’: Neil Warnock and BBC commentator agree on what occurred to Leeds’ Crysencio Summerville v Saints

Leeds United lost 1-0 to Southampton in the play-off final at Wembley Stadium on Sunday.

Leeds fans were full of hope and belief that their team will be promoted back to the Premier League.

However, they experienced the worst conceivable emotion. A defeat at the final hurdle, as well as the perception that many of their players did not attend the play-off final.

One of them was winger Crysencio Summerville, who has been Leeds’ best player this season and is likely one of the best in the Championship altogether.

In 43 league outings, the 22-year-old scored 19 goals and assisted nine times.

However, Summerville appeared off-colour from the start, and it didn’t help that he was booked early in the game, since he didn’t play with the same tenacity with or without the ball.

The on-field referee booked the Leeds star after 43 minutes for appearing to lunge into a tackle in Southampton’s box.

It was a meaningless challenge, yet it drew a foul, which irritated Jon Newsome, who described it as ‘pathetic’ in an interview with BBC Sport.

Neil Warnock concurred during his Sky punditry stint, claiming that he’shouldn’t have been’ a yellow.

Crysencio Summerville and Leeds United lost the play-off final.

“That’s pathetic,” Newsome said. “All Crysencio Summerville did was slip in and try to guard the ball. “He has not done anything.”

Neil Warnock added at HT on Sky Sports (26/05/24): “There are a couple of bookings that I believe should not have been booked. Early on, I thought of the guy who wrecked Brooks. “I thought that should have been a yellow card.”

Will Crysencio Summerville quit Leeds United?

You’re worried about Leeds now. They are in England’s second division, with players earning earnings closer to those in the Premier League than the Championship.

Furthermore, many players will return from loan spells in the summer. The squad will be swollen for the wrong reasons.

Leeds will most likely need to raise funds. That’s when you look to someone like Summerville, who is their most valuable asset.

Sources have already told HITC that the Premier League is interested in his talents, and it would not be surprising if that interest grows given that Leeds will remain in England’s second tier for another season.
