Leeds United could only draw with Portsmouth on the first day of the Championship season on Saturday at Elland Road, and John Mousinho has made a huge assertion about The Whites.
In their first game back in the Championship, Leeds drew 3-3 with Portsmouth thanks to goals from Pascal Struijk, Wilfried Gnonto, and Brenden Aaronson. Leeds struggled defensively against Pompey.
However, in assault, Leeds were explosive. The Whites struck the crossbar three times in the first ten minutes, before USA star Aaronson squandered a fantastic opportunity to put Daniel Farke’s team ahead.
There were flashes of brilliance as Leeds looked fantastic moving forward. However, it is a frustrating outcome for Farke’s team on their return to competitive football, as Leeds try to go one step further and secure promotion.
John Mousinho expects some Leeds players to go.
Leeds have already sold seven players this summer. Archie Gray, Crysencio Summerville, and Glen Kamara were all major players for the Whites last season, earning more than £70 million in total.
Others have been linked to the exit door, including Gnonto and Junior Firpo. According to Leeds Live, the Portsmouth boss believes several players will depart to join a Premier League team before the deadline.
“If I’m a Premier League manager, I’ll sign some of their players. Multimillion-pound gamers. I’m not sure how many will go in the next three weeks, but I’m sure I’d take them,” he remarked.
Mousinho believes Leeds deserved to beat his Portsmouth side.
He would be silly to claim otherwise, but the Pompey manager was gracious in stealing a point from Elland Road. When asked what his opinions were, Mousinho stated that Leeds deserved to win.
“Difficult to summarize. A brilliant point. Poor week following the friendlies. The lads offered all. Leed knows they’ve played a game. I was so disappointed not to win. That is a good point. Leeds deserved to win the game; they were a terrific team.”
Leeds have an immediate chance to make things right when they meet Luke Ayling’s Middlesbrough in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night, followed by a trip to Carlos Corberan’s West Brom the following Saturday.
